Voltage

Bold tech editorial with aggressive typography

lighteditorialbold

Born From

Electric teal (#3CFFD0) as the color of a screen-glow seen through a dark window at 2am. The near-black (#131313) that isn't quite black, the color of a device chassis after a year of use. Tight 1.2 line-height as compression, every sentence packed like a spec sheet. The design tradition of tech editorial: fast, dense, the content is the event.

Why Your Design Tokens Need A Single Source Of Truth
Most teams manage design decisions across scattered files, outdated wikis, and tribal knowledge. Here's why that breaks down at scale.

Why It Works

Electric teal accent (#3CFFD0) pops aggressively against the dark #131313 background. Light body weight (300) with 20px base creates airy readability on dark surfaces. 17px radius adds modern roundness while 2px small radius keeps inputs sharp. Smooth motion with ease-in easing creates deliberate editorial pacing. Tight 1.2 line-height on both heading and body creates dense tech editorial feel.

Best For

Tech news publication homepages with article grids. Gadget review and comparison platforms. Developer conference and event landing pages. Tech product launch countdown pages with feature reveals.

Skip This If

Your brand needs warmth or approachability. The dark background with teal accent reads as cold tech-forward. You need accessible high-contrast body text. #E9E9E9 on #131313 works but the 300 weight makes it thin. Your product targets non-technical audiences. The aggressive typography and dark palette intimidates casual users.

Palette

Voltage starts in shadow.

Light finds its way through teal.

Near-black background (#131313) with a subtle step up to the surface (#1D1D1D). That minimal contrast between layers creates depth through proximity. You sense the layering more than you see it. Borders at #303030 are barely visible. Just enough structure to separate elements without breaking the immersive darkness.

The mint accent (#3CFFD0) is the only color in the system. And it's electric. On the dark canvas, it glows without any shadow effects needed. The color itself IS the glow. The muted text at #949494 is a careful mid-gray that's readable against dark backgrounds without competing with the accent. Everything exists to make that one mint moment land.

Tech journalism should feel like the future.

Not like a press release.

Voltage's dark canvas and single neon accent create a reading environment where every story feels like it was published from inside the machine.

Why constraints make better designers than freedom ever could

When you remove every option, something interesting happens. The solution becomes obvious.

Typography

Geist at 400.

Paired with Geist.

Inter at 400 for headings with slight positive tracking (0.32px). That open spacing on a dark background creates headlines that feel like they're projected on a screen. Floating. Present. The 300 weight body text is thin and light, which on dark backgrounds reads as elegant rather than weak. Light text on dark canvas has a different physics than light-mode typography. Voltage understands this.

The 1.2 line-height for both headings and body creates a dense, screen-like reading experience. Everything is packed tight. There's no editorial leisureliness here. This is content designed to be consumed fast, like a news feed that knows your time is valuable.

Dense content. Electric focus.

The signal cuts through the noise.

Voltage's packed type system and mint accent turn your editorial content into something readers scroll through at the pace of a live feed.

Build something

Design tokens that give your product a point of view. Not just colors and fonts. Personality.

Shape

Rounded radius. 1px borders.

Voltage's physical language.

Seventeen-pixel radius is an unusual number. Not the typical 8, 12, or 16. That specificity signals that every value was extracted from a real product, not rounded to a convenient number. The 2px on small elements keeps interactions tight and precise. The contrast between the soft container and the sharp control mirrors the editorial/technical duality.

The feed looks different on dark.

Immersive on any screen.

Voltage's near-black depth and minimal glow survive mobile beautifully, creating a tech reading experience that feels intentional, not default.

Atmosphere

Smooth and comfortable.

Voltage's invisible layer.

No shadows. On a near-black background, traditional shadows are invisible anyway. Depth comes from the surface color stepping (131313 to 1D1D1D to 272727 on hover). Three levels of darkness create hierarchy through luminance alone. The scale hover effect adds a subtle size increase that, on dark interfaces, reads as a brightening effect. The overall aesthetic is immersive. Like sitting in a dark theater watching a bright screen.
