A cycling brand that inverted the expected relationship — condensed sans headings, serif body — and made it feel like a Sunday newspaper.
Barlow Condensed at 700 with 0.97 line-height creates tightly stacked headline blocks with physical presence. Lora body text makes the editorial copy feel worth reading — not just functional. Hyperlink blue accent on white is used with deliberate restraint. Black surface containers carry photography without distraction.

You need a warm or approachable brand tone. Your content is mostly data and UI rather than editorial and photography. The condensed heading style does not suit your headline content length.
One blue to break the silence.
White background with black surface sections is the cycling jersey in color form — the system alternates between the two extremes, never settling. Photography lives on the black surface. Text-forward content lives on white.
The hyperlink blue (#0000EE) as accent is a deliberate choice to use the internet's oldest color as a brand element. It works in this context because it reads as authentic web typography — this brand has not over-designed its interactive elements.
The editorial inversion that sport earned.
Velodrome's Barlow Condensed headings and Lora body text create a visual argument that the best sports brands have always made: discipline in the heading, intelligence in the body, full commitment to both.

Barlow Condensed at weight 700 with 0.97 line-height creates the typographic equivalent of a race number on a jersey — tight, tall, numerical in its density. Stacked display headings at this proportion have physical presence. They take up vertical space the way a printed race results board does.
Lora body text is the turn that makes this whole system work. A warm, slightly literary serif for body copy in a sports brand reads as confidence — this brand is not afraid of a long sentence. The heading-body contrast is extreme and intentional.
The dark sections do the work.
Velodrome's black surface containers create section-level drama for photography without requiring special treatment. The contrast between white text sections and dark image sections builds pace through the page like a race rhythm.

Fifty pixels on cards, two on buttons, one hundred on pills. The inverted shape logic — rounded containers, sharp interactive elements — mirrors the Velodrome's physical form: smooth banked curves, precise mechanical components.
The brand holds at phone width.
Velodrome's flat depth and black-and-white palette require no visual accommodation for small screens. The condensed headings compress cleanly, the Lora body text remains readable, and the hyperlink blue accent is unmistakable.
Velodrome's invisible layer.
Flat depth system, no standard shadows. Textured surface noise on black sections gives photography sections a slightly grainy, printed quality — this is intentional. The fast motion speed and ease-in curve makes everything feel like it has been clipped to pace. Scale hover effect: interactive elements move with you.
