A clean beauty retailer that chose deep forest teal when every competitor chose millennial pink or verdant green. Playfair Display used for BOTH heading and body text — a designer move that only works when you commit fully.
Deep forest teal accent (#023E55) signals clean and trustworthy without the expected green. Playfair Display body text is a sophisticated risk that pays off in editorial warmth. Light sage surface (#F6F7F4) is barely perceptible — just enough to define card boundaries. Diffuse bloom shadows create a glow rather than a drop.

One blue to break the silence.
White canvas with very light sage surface (#F6F7F4) — barely distinguishable in isolation, but purposeful when it appears as a card background. The slight warm-green undertone of the surface tint creates the botanical reference without making it literal. Deep forest teal (#023E55) appears on borders, buttons, and as the anchor of the text color family.
The near-black text (#001922) has the same blue-green undertone as the accent, creating a unified palette that reads as brand-coherent rather than default-neutral. The diffuse bloom shadow creates glow rather than depth.
Playfair everywhere is the commitment.
Sage's decision to use Playfair Display for both headings and body text creates a typographic consistency that reads as house voice — a single editorial personality across every word on the page.

Playfair Display at 700 heading weight creates authoritative, high-contrast serif headings. The bold weight gives Playfair its maximum elegance — the thick and thin stroke contrast becomes most visible here. The body at weight 400 provides the readable counterpoint to the heavy headings, creating a within-font hierarchy.
The almost imperceptible -0.08px heading letter-spacing gives headings a slightly more considered feel. The 14px base is compact and precise, signaling a brand that values information density over consumer-friendly scaling.

The deep forest teal that anchors Sage's entire color system does not appear constantly — which is exactly why it means something every time it does.

Sage's physical language.
Standard 12px radius on cards, sharp 4px on small elements, pill shapes on badges. The shape language is measured — enough rounding to be approachable, not so much as to seem casual. The 2px solid teal borders create defined container edges that reinforce the brand color. Playfair Display and solid teal borders are the design system's double signature.
So does the conviction.
Sage's diffuse bloom shadows and Playfair body text create luxury-spa energy at mobile size, proving that editorial warmth does not require a large screen to register.
Sage's invisible layer.
Diffuse bloom shadow (very wide, very soft) creates cards that seem to glow rather than lift. This is a lighting metaphor: clean beauty products are often photographed in soft, diffuse light, and the shadow system recreates that ambient quality in the interface depth. Textured surface noise reinforces the parchment-material quality of the page. Smooth transitions at comfortable speed.
