Nebula

Playful developer tool with gradient personality

darkdevelopergradient

Born From

Web framework communities that adopted cosmic imagery to signal ambition and scale. The gradient from deep navy to purple-blue as an analogue for galactic depth. Inter at 700 weight for headings and 200 weight for body — maximum tension within a single typeface. Spacious layout that lets the darkness breathe between elements like actual space.

Why It Works

Inter at 700 weight on deep #060913 near-black creates headings that punch through dark space. #565E70 muted accent prevents the gradient system from becoming overwhelming. Spacious density with 12px radius creates generous breathing room in the dark palette. Layered soft shadows on dark surfaces create galaxy-like depth with subtle surface noise. JetBrains Mono for code keeps developer credibility alive under the expressive visual layer.

Best For

Developer framework sites with gradient hero sections and starfield aesthetics. JAMstack and static site generator landing pages. Developer tool products that want to feel fun without losing credibility. Open-source community sites where personality drives contribution.

Skip This If

Your brand is corporate or institutional. The space-themed dark palette reads as creative developer, not enterprise. You need a light mode equivalent. Gradient-driven dark themes lose their entire identity when inverted. Your product is content-heavy with long reading sessions. Light text on deep dark backgrounds fatigues on extended use.

Palette

Nebula starts in shadow.

Light finds its way through blue.

The background (#060913) is deeper than black. It's dark with a blue-purple undertone. Space, not void. The surface (#23262D) has a slightly warm gray that creates contrast against the cool background. Cards feel like space stations floating in the dark.

The gradient (indigo to purple) is the main event. Used for hero sections, accent backgrounds, and feature highlights. It creates pools of color in the dark canvas. Electric and alive. The muted text (#BFC1C9) is a soft lavender-gray that reads easily against the dark. The accent itself is subtle (#565E70), almost invisible. In Nebula, the gradient does the color work. The accent just quietly manages interactive states.

A developer tool that has a personality.

More than you expected.

Nebula takes the visual language of space exploration and applies it to software, making big concepts feel cosmically legible.

Typography

ClashDisplay at 700.

Paired with Geist.

Inter at 700 for headings and 200 for body. That weight contrast is extreme. Bold, punchy headlines against ultralight body text. The effect is dramatic. Headlines hit hard. Body text floats. At 200 weight, paragraphs have an ethereal quality. Light strokes on a dark background create text that glows slightly, like distant starlight.

The 1.333 type scale and 18px base size keep things readable despite the light weight. The spacious density and 32px content padding give every paragraph room. Nothing is cramped. The ultralight body weight only works because the spacing is generous. Those two decisions are inseparable.

Reading in the dark, finally comfortable.

The gradient guides you.

Nebula's reading environment has the depth of a framework built to last, and a design that proves it.

Shape

Soft radius. 1px borders.

Nebula's physical language.

Twelve-pixel radius. Generous enough to feel modern. The 3.2px small radius creates a deliberate contrast between large containers (smooth curves) and small elements (nearly sharp). That scale difference adds visual rhythm. Surfaces at 0.75 opacity create a translucent quality. Cards aren't fully opaque. They hint at the dark canvas behind them. Subtle noise texture adds grain to surfaces, like looking at something through a camera with high ISO.

Smooth and spacious.

Nebula's invisible layer.

Layered soft shadows provide just enough depth to separate elements from the deep background. The lift hover effect makes cards rise on interaction. Combined with the bouncy easing (spring overshoot) and smooth motion, hovering feels like pulling something toward you through space. The 0.96 active scale on click compresses slightly. Every interaction has weight and dimension in this system. Objects move through space, not on a flat plane.
