Hearth

Friendly by default.

Born From

Knowledge tools that feel like notebooks you never want to close. The organic texture of recycled paper surfaces under warm interior lighting. Serif headings that carry the warmth of handwritten margin notes. Orange tones borrowed from autumn leaves and fireside conversations.

Why It Works

Serif heading adds warmth without losing professionalism. Orange accent feels friendly and energetic. Paper-like surface stacking creates depth without shadows. Tight 4px radius signals functional utility. Warm recycled-paper surface tone avoids sterile feel.

Best For

Note-taking and knowledge management tools. Team wiki and documentation workspaces. Course platform dashboards with progress tracking. Personal CRM and contact management apps.

Skip This If

Your product is dark-mode-first. This warm paper-toned palette does not invert well into dark equivalents. You need a luxury premium aesthetic. The 4px radius and paper-subtle shadows feel utilitarian not refined. Your brand color is blue or purple. The warm orange accent clashes with cool-toned brand palettes.

Palette

Hearth starts with white.

One orange to break the silence.

The surface color is the key to everything. That warm beige-gray (#F7F6F3) is like recycled paper. It shifts the entire emotional tone from "software" to "workspace." White content cards pop against it cleanly, but the contrast is gentle, not harsh. The dark warm brown text (#37352F) is softer than black. It has earth in it. Your eyes relax reading it.

The orange-brown accent (#D9730D) is campfire energy. Friendly and energetic without being aggressive. It's the color you'd pick if you wanted someone to feel welcome. Against the warm neutrals, it creates a single point of warmth that guides attention without demanding it. The gradient sweeps from that warm orange through gold into a deep green, like autumn shifting into evergreen.

You'll forget it's software.

That's the highest compliment.

Hearth wraps your workspace in warm surfaces that make long writing sessions feel like sitting at a desk you love.

Typography

Geist at 600.

Paired with Geist.

Fraunces is a soft serif with genuine personality. The letterforms feel hand-drawn without being sloppy. There's a human wobble in the curves that tells your users "a person designed this, not a committee." At weight 600 with gentle letter-spacing, it's warm without being casual, authoritative without being stiff. The heading line height at 1.2 keeps those serifs tight and intentional.

Paired with Inter for body text at weight 400, you get the best of both worlds. The heading catches your eye with character. The body disappears into reading. Fraunces brings the warmth. Inter brings the clarity. Together, with generous 1.75 line height and 1.5em paragraph spacing, they create an interface that feels simultaneously personal and professional. JetBrains Mono handles code, completing a system built for the kind of product where you write, organize, and think.

Reading feels like thinking.

Not like scrolling.

Hearth's warm canvas and spacious type turn documentation or notes into something you actually want to sit with.

Shape

Crisp radius. 1px borders.

Hearth's physical language.

Tight rounding at four pixels. Three on small elements, eight on modals. Functional. Utility-first. This isn't a system that uses shape to be decorative. The small radius signals "tool" not "toy." Solid 1px borders with warm gray tones create structure that feels natural against the paper-like surface. It's enough softness to avoid feeling clinical but restrained enough to feel like something you'd use to get work done. Space dividers instead of heavy lines let the content breathe.

Atmosphere

Smooth and spacious.

Hearth's invisible layer.

Paper-subtle depth. Barely there shadows (just 1px 3px at 8% opacity) that communicate "this card is above that surface" without making a performance of it. The subtle surface noise adds a tactile quality, like you can almost feel the paper texture through the screen. The depth comes from the surface color stacking, not from shadow drama. White on warm gray on white. Each layer is gentle. Smooth motion with lift hover effects means cards respond without startling. That restraint is what makes Hearth feel calm instead of cluttered.
